Inspired by Petit Trianon, Marie Antoinette’s chateau on the grounds of the Palace of Versailles, the Eleanor Robinson Countiss House is a gorgeous, 1917 mansion that is now home to a museum unlike anything else: the International Museum of Surgical Science (IMSS)! Aiming to promote the exchange of surgical knowledge worldwide, the IMSS has an extraordinary collection of more than 7,000 medical artifacts and pieces of art.
In this second installment in a two-part series, we'll focus on the wonderful stories of this Gilded Age mansion, the IMSS's amazing collection on the third and fourth floors, and the temporary exhibitions. Tour highlights include ancient Egyptian tablets depicting medical treatments, a to-scale model of Italy's 16th Century Teatro Anatomico, and fractured human skulls brought back together with gold leaf through the Japanese art of Kintsugi. The IMSS is a truly special museum I'm really excited to feature on this virtual experience!
