Hidden Chicago - Underground Streets (plus RATS!) on Heygo

Chicago is known for many things, like beautiful architecture, spectacular museums, fantastic food, and a wonderful theater scene. The city also has some pretty amazing things that are uncommonly known. The "Hidden Chicago" series puts a spotlight on these secret aspects of the city.

In Daniel Burnham and Edward Bennett's 1909 Plan of Chicago, they advocated for a series of layered streets to help the city grow in an efficient and beautiful way. These underground paths have been a reality for more than a century now and are a confusing labyrinth for drivers and pedestrians unfamiliar with them. These hidden streets are also beloved by earth's most prolific mammals: RATS! Rodents thrive in urban settings like Chicago, and I've really grown to appreciate these fascinating creatures contributing to the city's wildlife. Although this tour is scheduled before rats are most active in the day, signs of them will be seen even if we don't spot any scurrying around during this tour.

I hope you can join on this experience filled with interesting perspectives and stories about these underground streets and the rats who love them! There’s no registration cost, but tips are appreciated.

All you have to do is register in advance here, and then watch the live-streamed tour from any web browser.
